Macerated for 15 days before fermentation with indigenous yeast. Matured on the lees for 8 months in barrel. Bottled with light filtration, no fining and no added sulphur.

This Wine: Also known as Rot Traminer, Savagnin Rose is the non-aromatic, pink skinned relative to Gewurtztraminer. Despite being considered a white grape variety, this wine is light pink in the glass due to the skin contact. The profile has a touch of lemon but is all about a lovely concentration of minerals rather than fruit. Great with food and also age-worthy.

Notes on the Winemaker: Jean-Pierre Rietsch is a natural winemaker in the village of Mittelbergheim, Alsace. His estate has been in the family for seven generations but wasn't used for vine cultivation until the 1970s. All of Jean-Pierre's wines are in very high demand but we particularly love his skin-contact cuvees which is a winemaking method rarely seen in Alsace.
